Sperm results can change the treatment plan. A semen analysis should be reviewed before deciding whether IUI, IVF, or IVF with ICSI is most appropriate.
What to evaluate
A basic semen analysis looks at count, motility, morphology, and volume. Depending on the result, a reproductive urologist may evaluate hormones, varicocele, obstruction, medications, heat exposure, or genetic factors.
How it affects treatment
Mild abnormalities may still allow IUI in some cases. More significant abnormalities may push the plan toward IVF with ICSI.
